Getting started
This guide is designed to help you with the initial installation and setup of the NordenCare application. We'll be covering basic steps necessary to start. Should you have troubles with any steps of the process, please let us know by using either contact form or social media and we'll be happy to help.

What is NordenCare?We are small company combining people from Latvia, Germany and China sharing the idea that elderly people - our mothers, fathers, relatives - even living apart from their children and other relatives deserve to feel safe, protected and know that if things are suddenly not going very well you are keeping an eye on them and there is always someone who is ready to help. In our digital society they may start feel a bit abandoned, so we are trying to come up with the solution allowing younger relatives follow their elderly dare ones with ease

What NordenCare does?We are creating and application which works with the personal physical activities tracking device to ensure continuous monitoring of the your parents, other relatives or friends allowing you to be aware of their current state. Aside of this simple feature our backend engine builds very personalised profile of the person being followed. This information is later on used to detect deviations from standard state of the person and notify followers, so that they can act if required

How it works?In a very simplified way, person you wish to follow should wear an activity monitoring band which communicated with the NordenCare app, which in turn submits this information to our servers. We have developed a sophisticated analytical engine running machine learning algorithms to build person’s very personalised profile, allowing us detect if there are any deviations from normal profile baseline. If such deviations are detected, the follower receives a notification

Which platforms are supported?Currently we are supporting Android 4.4 and above. iOS application will come shortly

Which devices are supported?Currently we are supporting Xiaomi Mi Band 1s only. Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is next in our pipeline. The selection of the supported devices is based on relatively cheap price of the bands and general availability

Is NordenCare medical monitoring service?NordenCare is in no way medical monitoring service and cannot provide any medical information on the condition of the person being followed. Notifications and state monitoring delivered via NordenCare are purely informational and cannot be treated as information for any specific medical actions. NordenCare does not bear any responsibilities for the possible health condition issues, Please always take your doctor’s advices and prescriptions first

What is NordenCare application?NordenCare is a mobile application (currently available for the Android 4.4+ platform only) allowing collecting activity information of the person being followed as well as present results to the followers. Both main user groups of the application - followers and ones being monitored - using the same application

Where can I get the application?Currently we are in the early public testing stage to identify possible flaws and adjustments required, hence application is not available via official Google Play channel. In order to download application you need register you participation in Beta program

How to install?After your participation in Beta program is approved you’ll receive personalised download link. Please use this link on your mobile device in order to download and install the app. It will be required to enable “Untrusted application sources” in your mobile phone settings in order to install it (this step is required since we are not distributing app via official Google Play channel yet). Please read through “Getting started” section for more details

How to sign up?After installation launch the app and follow on screen instructions. NordenCare combines login and signup processes into one for the better user experience - you are starting with entering your e-mail and desired password and in system sees that such user does not yet exist signup process is initiated automatically. If provided credentials matches user record we are logging you in automatically. Please read through “Getting started” section for more details

How to start following?After you successfully logged into application it is important do decide whether your primary use case is Follower or someone who is being monitored. If you are a Follower - please request following permission or ask person to send you an invitation for the following; if you are a person being monitored - please connect you activity tracker to the the application and request following from the followers you trust. Please read through “Getting started” section for more details

How to invite follower?In order to invite follower you need to have activity tracker connected to the app. In the main screen press round + button and click Invite to follow. Currently you have two options how you can proceed - either by sharing your personal QR code to the person you wish to be your Follower (in that case connection will be established immediately after QR code is scanned by the follower application) or by sending an invitation based on the phone number from your phone address book (in that case Follower will receive an invitation in his app and after accepting it, connection will be established automatically). How to add device?Please click hamburger menu or swipe from left screen side to the right in order to open side drawer menu. Select Devices option and press round + button in order to see the list of the available devices. Please select any of the available MI1S devices from the list. It may take up to 2 minutes to initiate and register device. Please read through “Getting started” section for more details

What is Beta program?Beta program is a public testing of the NordenCare application with the aim to identified usability bugs, user experience flaws and gather overall feedback from the real life users. As a result we’ll be fixing issues found and adjusting application based on the feedback of the users to get ready for the actual launch

How can I enrol?In order to enrol you need to fill in application form. You need to be aware that application is in no way production ready and various bugs are possible. If required we can provide you with the Xiaomi Mi Ban 1s activity tracker free of charge. If your application is confirmed you’ll receive access to the application installation and our feedback system. We are currently planning to enrol up to 50 persons to the Beta program

What is expected from meBeing participant of the Beta program you are expected to use application as a follower or person being followed. It is expected that you are documenting all the bugs and usability flaws findings during Beta program as well as possible ideas of the use cases. You must provide all your findings to the NordenCare as a feedback. If NordenCare provides you with the free activity tracker to conduct Beta program tasks, you can keep it for yourself free of charge even after program is over

How to submit a feedbackIf approved for the participation you will receive welcome email with all the detailed instructions, but generally speaking it will be either access to our ticketing system or public feedback forms via Google Documents

What data application collects?There are three main groups of the data Nordencare collect during operations 1. profile information: name, surname, phone number, email, address, birth date, gender, weight, height (this information is required to ensure that followers can easily contact persons being followed as well ac calculate activity based statistics); 2. Activity reading from the activities tracker: heart rate, physical activity, sleeping information (this data i collected in order to build personalised profile and detect deviations from it); 3. Geolocation: coordinates of the person at any given moment of time (by default location tracking is disabled and user must explicitly enable it. NordenCare cannot and will not enabled it on user’s behalf. This in formation is normally used in order to follow user location in some cases when it is needed)

How safe is my data?Your data safety is very important to us. Our database is organised in such a way that it is impossible to link your activity and location readings with the actual person since profile information is stored separately from the activities. Access to our databases is encrypted and limited to our own servers only, so any access attempts from external world are not possible. Communication between application and backend are also protected and requires authentication per each request being made
